As You Get Older, Funerals Are a Bigger Part of Your Life

Hi again, all of my family, friends, foes, fiends, and you funky folks!

If you happen to be reading this, chances are you’ve hit that point in life where your social calendar starts to include more and more funerals than weddings, more hospital visits than bar crawls, and more conversations about cholesterol and pharmacies than concert tickets or Billboard’s top 100. It’s a weird transition, isn’t it? One day you’re moshing at a rock show, and the next, you’re standing in a cemetery, somber, wondering how time slipped by you so fast. My dear old Dad used to say all the time, “Time is a thief” and boy was he right!

Aging is totally inevitable, but nobody really prepares you for the emotional cost and weight of losing people — friends, family, mentors, even the occasional “frenemy”. And as the years roll on, the frequency of these farewells seems to increase almost exponentially. It’s a sobering reality, but it’s also a reminder to live fully while we still are able to.

The Unavoidable Shift Of Time

Remember when the biggest concerns in life were whether your favorite band was coming to town or if your crush would notice you in your homeroom? Fast forward a few decades, and suddenly, you’re scrolling through Facebook only to see yet another RIP post for someone you’ve known for years.
