Howdy, friends, family, fiends, foes, and funky folks! Did you ever find yourself in a situation where you’re just not sure what to do next? Maybe you’re feeling a little down, a little lost, or just a bit out of sync with the world around you. It’s in those moments that we might consider reaching out for a little help, and often, that help comes with some form of therapy. But here’s the big question: Can a therapist really help? Or are you just going to end up sitting on a couch, talking about your feelings while someone nods along and takes notes? I know what you’re thinking because I’ve been there. Therapy is one of those things that sounds great in theory but can sometimes leave you wondering if it’s worth the time, money, and emotional investment. Let me share a little story from my own life — a classic “Dean-ism” if you will — that might shed some light on the matter. A few years back, I found myself in a bit of a funk. Life was good, but my Dad had just passed on, and there was this nagging feeling in the back of my mind that something was missing, besides Dad. I couldn’t quite put my finger on it, but I knew I wasn’t firing on all cylinders and feeling a bit lost. So, I decided to take the plunge and book an appointment with a psychologist.
