Howdy again, friends, family, fiends, foes, and funky folks!
Today, I want to work with a topic that might seem a bit odd to most working on holidays. Yep, you read that right. While most folks are out there firing up the grill, gathering around the family table, or trying to get a head start on their holiday shopping, I’m usually clocking in and getting to work. And you know what? I wouldn’t have it any other way. I know, I sound insane. Let me tell you why.
The Holiday Hustle
First off, let’s talk about the obvious reason many of us choose to work on holidays — money. Retail businesses, and plenty of other industries, see a massive uptick in traffic during mostly any holiday season. Whether it’s Black Friday, the 4th of July, Labor Day, or the day after Christmas, people are out in droves, and that means businesses need all hands on deck.
Now, I know what you’re thinking: “Dean, why would anyone want to deal with the chaos of a holiday like Black Friday?” Well, it’s simple. More customers mean more opportunities to make sales, which means more money in the till, duh. And, let’s be honest, when you’re working on commission or have bonuses tied to sales, that extra cash can be a real heavy duty motivator.
