Today, I want to talk about a topic that’s as important as any your can think of — keeping your cool when you feel like lashing out at your partner. Relationships are like rock ’n’ roll — they can be exhilarating, but they can also get messy if you’re not careful. So, let’s talk about this, shall we?
Recognize the Trigger Items
First things first, you’ve got to recognize what’s setting your teeth on fire. Just like a guitarist knows when their amp is about to blow, you need to know your triggers. Is it something they said? Something they did? Or maybe it’s just been a tough day, and your patience is running thinner than a record producer’s hair. Identifying the trigger helps you understand that your reaction is more about you than them.
Take a Short Breather
When you feel that heat rising, take a giant step back. Literally. Walk out of the room, go outside, or find a quiet spot. Breathe in deeply through your nose, hold it for a few seconds, and then let it out slowly through your mouth. Repeat this a few times. Look up “square breathing”…
