I Was Gone for 4 Days, How Can I Possibly Catch Up All That Work?

Hey, folks! Dean Benson here, back from a tiny time off and staring down at the mountain of work that piled up in my absence. Ever had that feeling? You take a few days off to relax and unwind, but when you return, it’s like you are behind because the workload seems to have doubled? (Mainly because no one else chipped in to work that stuff) Yeah, I thought so. We’ve all been there. So, let’s chat a bit about how to catch up at work after being gone for a few days.

Step 1: Close Your Eyes and Take a Deep Breath

First thing, don’t panic. I know, easier said than done. But seriously, taking a deep breath and grounding yourself can be good for your psyche. When you’re facing a monster task list, it’s easy to get overwhelmed. Remember, you’re not going to get everything done in one day, and that’s okay.

Step 2: Assess the Situation

Before diving headfirst into your email or task list, take a moment to assess the situation. What are the most pressing chores or tasks? Are there deadlines looming? Make a list of everything that needs your attention. I like to use a good old-fashioned pen and paper for this — there’s something satisfying about crossing things off a physical list.
