Rotator Cuff Blues, What a Drag!

Howdy, friends, family, fiends, foes, and funky folks!

Today, I’m working on a topic that might hit close to home for some of you and does for me, as I have had the surgery about 10 years ago and thanks to a great surgeon, I am 100%….now. I’m talking about the infamous rotator cuff injury. If you’ve ever felt a sharp twinge while lifting something heavy or that dull, constant ache that won’t go away, and you can’t just get comfortable, you might know what I’m talking about. But why do so many people get these injuries? And what exactly is the rotator cuff anyway? Let’s break it down in plain ol’ Dean-isms so it makes sense.

So, What’s This Rotator Cuff Thingie, Anyway?

Before we look at the “how” of the injury, let’s chat about what the rotator cuff actually is. Think of it like the control center of your shoulder. It’s not just one thing, but rather a group of four muscles and tendons that surround your shoulder joint. These muscles work together to keep your upper arm bone (the humerus, for those of you taking notes) firmly seated in your shoulder socket. Without the rotator cuff, your arm would pretty much flop around like a fish out of water. Not a pretty sight, I can assure you. ( Think Harry Potter when he broke his arm)
